Rev. Cherlyn McKanders
After years of pursuing a successful career as a teacher, school administrator and college instructor, Rev. Cherlyn Elaine McKanders finally answered that still small voice that had echoed in her ear as a young child. In July 2017 she became local pastor at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, humbled that God had chosen her to lead the charge at our historic church. Pastor McKanders, holds a Master of Divinity degree, having attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological and Ecumenical Theological Seminary.
Pastor Cherlyn as some call her, loves life and brings that passion to her work with the congregation and interfaith community. She has previously served on ministry boards, been a Christian educator, preacher and messenger of the gospel. As a former clergy spouse and itinerant minister, she brings a certain wisdom and love of people to her new work with and in our community. Though she has no birth children, she is a mother to many in her extended family. One of her favorite scriptures is Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good; to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
Musician: Sally Jackson
Sally has been a life long member of Mt. Vernon and carries on the legacy of her Grandmother Jackson who was once the church musician. Sally works very hard trying to wrangle our choir and musicians. She is a valuable asset each Sunday and at our special services.
Custodian: Rachael Werkman
Rachael has been with us for the past two years. She can handle all the messes we leave for her including cleaning up after the animals during our live nativity. She and her beautiful daughters are very special to the Mt. Vernon family.
Now that we have introduced ourselves to you we would love to meet you!
